THE HUM Team
KJ Elaine
she/her
KJ received her 500-Hour YTT Certification in Kelowna, BC in 2017 with the goal to own and operate a successful and sustainable studio in the Twin Cities. In the summer of 2018, with more curiosity surrounding her love of movement, and dance, she completed her 80-Hour Barre Certification, and 100-Hour Vinyasa Certification that has allowed her to expand both her knowledge, and teachings.
KJ has over 1,000 hours of training in yoga and meditation, and has taught over thousands of classes. She is focused on building future programs and offerings that will support the growth and development of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) dreamers, entrepreneurs, and creatives.
Emma Boyum
she/her
Emma attended her first “formal” yoga asana class in 2008. With a background in dance, she was inspired by the ability to move her body in a way that felt at once familiar and brand new.
Emma has practiced many different styles of yoga and became certified in 2015, receiving her 500-Hour YTT Certification. Since then, Emma has been honored to teach and continue to learn about this incredible practice. Emma loves to incorporate humor and humility into her classes. As a former special education teacher, Emma is skilled in providing a safe and comfortable place for anyone to practice yoga, regardless of their ability.
When not at the studio, Emma is often golfing (poorly), gardening (less poorly), spending time with loved ones, saying hi to every dog, dreaming up her next trip somewhere, or thinking about what to eat next.
Kyle Ashlee
he/him/they
Kyle is a yoga teacher, a GirlDad, a college professor, and a philosophy nerd. Before completing his 200-hour RYT in 2022, Kyle received a PhD in educational leadership and spent many years working as a college educator, teaching leadership courses, retreats, and workshops for college students.
After the COVID-19 pandemic, he decided to change the course of his life and became a yoga teacher, integrating his knowledge of identity development with his passion for yoga asana and philosophy.
Kyle leads active and engaging vinyasa and hatha-style classes, each with an intentional theme woven throughout to illuminate teachings and inspire reflection, learning, and growth. Kyle loves music and he spends a lot of time developing unique playlists that match the theme of each class he teaches. From time to time, you might even hear him strumming his guitar before or after class.
When he's not on his mat, he is learning from his two greatest teachers - his daughters Azaelea and Zinnea - attending dance recitals, fixing ponytails, and changing diapers. He is honored to share his insights, gifts, and passions with this community and he can’t wait to practice with you!
Cait barrett
she/her
Cait is so honored and excited to be part of this community! Cait has loved moving since the second she came into the world (just ask her mom). From playing sports year round growing up to getting a Degree in Nutrition + Exercise Science, Cait can’t get enough of learning about how we move and why it’s so important!
Cait has been teaching barre and yoga classes since 2016 and has both her Barre and Yoga teacher training 200RYT certification. Her mission as a teacher and student is to create a mind and body connection that allows for fun, functional, and accessible exploration. She has experienced and witnessed that getting to know our own bodies and making connection with other humans are two key factors to improving brain and mental health.
Cait works full time outside of teaching, but her most important job is “Mommy” to a wild 5-year old and 75-lb lap dog. If she’s not running after them she’s outside with a book, playing pickleball (yep, she’s one of them), creating a new playlist for class, hiking with her partner or watching True Crime :).
Cait thanks you for welcoming her to HUM. She can’t wait to connect with each of you and learn your stories and why you choose to move with HUM! :)
Kristen Schultz
she/her
Kristen "Kakes" Schultz, has been teaching barre since 2016, and practicing since 2014. Kakes' mission is to help empower her students to move safely and freely within their own bodies, while challenging their minds and muscles. Her classes can be described as energetic, welcoming, and educational.
In addition to teaching barre, Kakes has a doctorate of physical therapy and has her own practice, Kos Physiotherapy and Wellness, a practice dedicated to providing high quality, patient-centered care.
She lives in Minneapolis with her husband, Steve. Together, they enjoy cooking a new dish, trying out a new restaurant, and visiting family. When she's not teaching or working with patients/clients, she can be found trying out group classes at various local gyms, walking around the lakes, or grabbing a coffee (shout out to FRGMNT, Jones, and Cafe Ceres!)
